The Matamala de Merlan farmhouse is surrounded by 17 ha of land, most of it with holm oak and pine forest, in its lower area furrowed by a pluvial stream. In the reconstruction of the farmhouse with the material found on the ground, part of the exterior walls were redone as far as possible and later they were plastered with lime and painted with natural pigments. Another part of the facade was built with natural stone carved by Czech and Slovak stonemasons, who together with masons and carpenters from these countries, took care of the rest. For the final result, the "Catalan tuff" tile flooring has been used, manufactured in a traditional way, with fir wood carpentry from Slovakia and tiles, doors, furniture and other decorative elements brought from a country as far away as Bali.

The lower floor is practically occupied by a large living room, with a fireplace. Another adjoining room, smaller in size, is designed as a library study. The start of the spiral staircase gives it a nice modern feel. The kitchen is of a more austere style and with a certain Provencal air. A door communicates with an open-air terrace, dominated by a mammoth Balinese table that serves as a summer dining room.

On what can be called the first floor there are four bedrooms, which are accessed through Balinese doors, and which share two bathrooms. A living room in front of a stone-framed fireplace serves as a hallway.

The master suite is located on the loft, with a fireplace in one corner, and a built-in Balinese bathtub. In front of the bathtub there is a corridor that acts as a dressing room and that communicates with a complete bathroom, which incorporates a Turkish steam bath.

On the outside, the Romanesque hermitage of Sant Bartomeu next to the farmhouse is prior to the 12th century, restored in 1453.

Optionally there is the possibility of acquiring an adjoining farm of 17 hectares.

It is essential to visit this modern farmhouse surrounded by a natural environment and converted inside into a unique piece where space and light go hand in hand.
