This farm is located in Torrenueva, in the heart of La Mancha, a region in the centre of Spain that forms one of the most extensive natural regions and high plateaus of the Iberian Peninsula.
Casas Altas is an old quinteria (cortijo or country house) near the towns of Valdepeñas, Torrenueva and Santa Cruz de Mudela. The architecture finds its origin in the 18th century. The farm stands on 11 hectares, including a 2-hectare pine and holm oak forest, a large garden and 7 hectares of organic olive groves in production.
The house has been restored and converted into a beautiful modern and comfortable house of 340m2. The restoration has been carried out maintaining the 80 cm thickness of the walls of the old house. The most efficient and ecological materials were used, so Casas Altas is a house that meets the highest energy class. The materials are natural and of great quality and the utmost care has been taken to meet the criteria that have made the house a healthy, breathable and peaceful home.
It is an autonomous house equipped with renewable energies. It has a large solar garden, of which the battery bank is new, with a diesel generator as support system. Hot water and heating are provided by solar panels, a propane gas boiler with a large tank and a pellet boiler, which can also run on wood, almond shells and olive kernels. All this makes Casas Altas a completely autonomous house.
The extensive garden with shady trees and fruit trees, plus the pine forest that surrounds the house, provide a micro-ecosystem and freshness in summer. Due to the large walls of the house, the temperature in the house never rises above 25º in summer, while from the large windows the light flows in and the green of the trees creates a fresh and beautiful atmosphere.
Casas Altas is an estate surrounded by tranquility. The silence is the most remarkable feature. Both by bike and on foot you can enjoy long trips, without having to cross roads. On the other hand is Valdepeñas, the capital of the region, so in 15 minutes from Casas Altas you can reach the Regional Hospital Gutiérrez Ortega, the National University of Distance Learning, administrative offices, schools, sports centres and leisure centres.
Valdepeñas is a hunting ground and there are many wineries. The 'Denominación de Origen. La Mancha' is the largest wine denomination in the world.
The estate is very close to both natural areas such as Las Tablas de Daimiel or Las Lagunas de Ruidera as well as picturesque historic villages such as Almagro or Villanueva de los Infantes. In the area there are numerous medieval castles on hills that open spaces with a wide horizon, great brightness and colour, change with the seasons. The purity of the sky of La Mancha makes it possible to enjoy a fantastic starry sky.
The Andalusian highway A-4 is 5 minutes away from "Casas Altas" and allows you to reach Madrid quickly and safely in 2 hours.
